- Mason Terry wins Braintree Town’s Supporters Player of the Year
- The 21-year-old wants to step up next season
- Terry featured 41 times for the National League side this season
West Ham United have a number of youngsters out on-loan this season. For most of them, it is about continuing to build on experience in the hopes of breaking the mould and into the Hammers first-team. For one player, it has been more successful than most for him personally.
Goalkeeper Mason Terry may not have been able to keep Braintree Town in the National League but he did get his plaudits, winning Supporters Player of the Season. Each season the 21-year-old has stepped up in the football pyramid and did so this year after a spell at Hornchurch the year prior.
This season, the shot stopper has appeared 41 times for Braintree being a shining light in a difficult season for the team. Terry told West Ham’s official website that he is proud of the effort’s he has mad so far, and excited for what’s next.
“Reflecting on my season, it’s been an unbelievable experience playing in the National League. I’ve definitely learnt a lot during my spell at Braintree. I would like to thank the gaffer, the staff, the players and the fans who welcomed me in from day one.
“Winning three Supporters’ Player of the Season awards in a row is a very proud achievement. This gives me the motivation to continue to succeed and the appetite to achieve more awards like this.
“Having two successful loans at Concord Rangers and Hornchurch prior to my move to Braintree this season, I had already played around 90 senior games, so I had learnt a lot from those two seasons.
“This season, I’ve learnt even more, especially playing at some of the bigger teams away from home in large hostile environments. The physical and mental toughness of games twice a week, travelling midweek up and down the country – these are the scenarios that people think are easy until you face them.
Shot stopper Terry aiming for another step up
If Terry can’t break into the West Ham team, he wants to make another step up. Having player in the National League South and National League, the 21-year-old wants to at least test his skills in the EFL next season.
“Going up a division across each of my three loans has taken my experience to another level, building a great foundation for myself. Now, having over 130 men’s games under my belt, I am ready to go into the Football League and continue to succeed.
“I am very excited for what the summer has in store for me. I want to continue learning on and off the pitch and improve my different attributes that will help me with my performances in games.”
