- Frank Lampard on the shortlist to replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace
- Lampard played almost 200 games for West Ham
- The 47-year-old has just guided Coventry City to the Championship title
West Ham United may be in a fight to stay in the Premier League but a former midfielder is on his way back to the top flight. Frank Lampard has orchestrated Coventry City‘s promotion back to the big time but the 47-year-old may not be coming with him.
According to TEAMtalk, Lampard is on the shortlist to replace the outgoing Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace. Glasner is looking for a new challenge and Lampard represents an option that would give them some Premier League experience.
Lampard, who played almost 200 games for West Ham, has been in management 2018, when he almost got Derby County promoted. Since then, the former England international has had two spells managing Chelsea and worked at Everton, before dropping down to the Championship to take over Coventry City.
Former West Ham man Frank Lampard in frame for Crystal Palace
This season Lampard has guided Coventry City to the Championship title. What looked like something the Sky Blues would never get, has been given to them by the former Chelsea midfielder, who’s managerial stock was low when he joined the club.
Lampard, who started his career with West Ham, had a mediocre spell with Everton which had plummeted the options for coaching work the 47-year-old had. A caretaker spell back at Chelsea did not seem to make much difference as Premier League sides turned their nose up at Lampard.
The former England international would drop down into the Championship, as he did for his first job with Derby County. The move has proved more than fruitful, guiding Coventry City back to the top flight for the first time on over 20 years, and doing it in style by winning the division.
Now, with Lampard’s stock high once again, he is on the radar of many established Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace.
Lampard will return to the top flight with either Crystal Palace or Coventry City and will face West Ham, so long as the Hammers can find a way to survival this season.
