- West Ham face Crystal Palace on Monday night
- The Hammers are still one point above the drop zone
- Aaron Wan-Bissaka says the mood of the group is good
West Ham United head to Selhurst Park tomorrow night in search of another three points. The Hammers are out of the Premier League relegation zone but know they need to keep their form going if they want to stay up this season.
The mood in the group is strong, with forward Valentin Castellanos saying everyone is pushing the message of positivity and this has been echoed by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The defender has speaking to the club’s official website ahead of the game with Crystal Palace, stating the groups togetherness and positive attitude is what can get them out of this situation.
“I think things are going well at the moment,” the 28-year-old said. “Closing the gap over the last couple of months hasn’t been easy, but we’ve worked hard to get to where we are, and we want it to continue.
“We’ve had to show that we’re strong and together, and that we’re all behind each other as a team. There’s been a lot of pressure, but we’ve kept the focus on us, gone into games with the mentality of winning, and we’ve just got to keep that going now.
“The mood around the place is good, and the boys are feeling good. Within the defence and the whole team we always try to push each other, and we’re getting the rewards. We know we just have to continue doing that.”
Familiar faces for Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Monday night’s game see’s Wan-Bissaka return to his old stomping ground. The defender began his professional career with the Eagles, making 46 appearances in three years after making his debut.
“It’s always nice to go back there, and to see the stadium and the fans. The atmosphere is always good there, but we just have to block it out and play our football because we have a task to complete.
“They have good players, but I think it’s a good challenge for us. We have to prepare properly, and though they played on Thursday we just have to focus on ourselves and the things we can control.”
Wan-Bissaka has not played for West Ham since returning from international duty, with Kyle Walker-Peters taking his place. In his trip away, he helped DR Congo confirm their place for this summer’s World Cup, something he is immensely proud of.
“I’m very proud. I don’t think I realised how massive it was until we all got back to DR Congo and celebrated with the fans. They’re so passionate, and you can tell how much it meant to them.
“I don’t think it’s properly sunk in yet that we have a World Cup to look forward to. For now though, my full focus is on West Ham and the Premier League, and getting results in the games we’ve got left so we stay up.”
