  • West Ham interested in Real Betis defender Natan
  • The Brazilian joined the La Liga club permanently last summer
  • West Ham are interested in the defender regardless of Axel Disasi talks

West Ham United return to action this weekend with the team having spent the period planning how to escape their current predicament in the Premier League. Despite this, it has not stopped the Hammers looking to the future with a new player on their radar.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have joined AFC Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Brentford in declaring their interest in Real Betis defender, Natan.

West Ham have turned their defence round in 2026 and will be looking to add a central defender at the end of the season. On-loan defender Axel Disasi is the primary option but Chelsea’s current asking price is making the Hammers look at other options, or bringing in two of the same profile if they can bring the price down.

The club looked at Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell in January, before moving for Disasi but remain interested in the young English defender as well as Natan.

Who is Real Betis defender Natan?

The 25-year-old Brazilian has been at Betis on permanent basis for just this season but has been a mainstay in Manuel Pellegrini’s team. After playing almost every game on-loan with the Seville club last season, it was a no-brainer to make it permanent, with Natan’s form continuing.

The mobile central defender has played in a back-four or back three, using his passing ability and pace to adapt to any defensive scenario. Natan’s mobility does not take away from his defensive strength, standing at 6’2 can still hold off attackers and win aerial duels.

Natan fits the profile of defender’s that Nuno likes. Disasi also possesses the same qualities, as does Konstantinos Mavropanos. The West Ham hierarchy believes he would fit the exact profile that they are looking for, whether or not they secure the services of Disasi.

Should the Hammers make a move for the La Liga defender they will face competition from fellow Premier League teams but could be able to negotiate price lower than that of other options at home.
