West Ham United came up with a massive three points at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night. Crysencio Summerville netted the single goal that secured the win, pouncing on the free ball after Jarrod Bowen’s interception on Bernd Leno’s mistake.
The win leaves the Hammers level on points with Nottingham Forest, and only in the bottom three on goal difference. West Ham are well and truly in the fight to stay up thanks to this win.
The goal scorer, Summerville told the club’s official website that the only way this team can go now is up:
“We know it’s going to be a fight till the end and that’s what we are doing, like I said, this one was important for us to boost ourselves as well. The only way is up now.
“For sure [we want to keep this momentum]. Every game, like in the Cup as well [at home to Brentford on Monday night], we want to take results and we’re going to do this as well.”
More goal’s on the agenda
For Summerville, one goal in the run in is simply not enough. The Dutch winger said last week that Nuno Espirito Santo has helped his game by simplifying what he is asking of the player. This is not the only inspiration for the attacker, with Summerville crediting a lot of his form to his new born girl:
“The [Man of the Match] trophy is for her!” he smiled. “I said to my girl as well, I’m going to score for her, so I’m very pleased today.
“[For my goal] I think first I wanted to chip the goalie but then I thought I needed to stay calm there. I composed myself and then I slid it down the side.
“I’m in a good space. feel good. I feel confident. I get the trust from the coach as well, from my teammates, so I hope I can keep going and keep the consistency and momentum. I’m happy to help the team with the goal.
“It was a relief because we know how important this win would be to go in the right direction and I’m very, very pleased with the three points.”
Summerville’s form
Summerville’s form has been particularly important for West Ham in the second-half of the season. Last night’s goal takes the Dutchman’s tally for the season to seven, his best since he netted 21 in Leeds United promotion winning campaign in the Championship in 2024.
Crysencio Summerville’s 2025/26 West Ham United Statistics
| Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 26 | 7 | 2 |
The 24-year-old has now scored seven goals in his last ten games for West Ham in all competitions, with several of those being match winners. Summerville’s importance to Nuno’s Hammers is hard to understate, with the Dutchman being the main source of goals for the team under him.
With several difficult games on the horizon, keeping Summerville on-form could be make or break for West Ham in their survival fight.
