West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the victory over Liverpool on Sunday.
The 33-year-old had to be replaced in the first half as the Hammers reigned supreme over the visitors 3-2 at the London Stadium.
Such a joyous occasion now has a disappointing undertone, however, after it was revealed by the official club channels that the Italian ace is facing a lengthy layoff.
The 13-times capped Italy centre-back has already started the recovery at Rush Green but is likely to face a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
Prior to this setback, Ogbonna had made 11 appearances across all competitions for the Irons this season.

Whilst it’s clearly too early to speculate on possible timeframes, it seems certain Ogbonna will be out until sometime early in 2022.
Out of contract at the end of the season, it remains to be seen whether this brutal injury blow will have an effect on the club’s decision over the Italian’s future.
Craig Dawson and Issa Diop will likely deputise in the ace’s absence whilst current Sunderland loan star Frederik Alves could be under consideration for a recall in January.
