West Ham have reportedly been ‘offered the chance’ to sign Spanish striker Diego Costa on ‘several occasions’ according to Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph.
The Hammers look as though they will end the January transfer window without signing a replacement forward despite allowing Sebastien Haller to leave the club earlier in the month.
Costa, who is available as a free agent, would have provided experienced cover for Michail Antonio who has a chequered injury history including setbacks this season.
It seems as though David Moyes’ conscious effort to only sign players who fit the required stipulations of the kind of player he is trying to bring to the club, avoiding the sort of mistakes the Scot referred to recently.
The 32-year-old striker, not afraid of the occasional histrionic, was often a thorn in the side of the Irons, scoring on three occasions against the club during his time at Chelsea.

Nobody can convince any West Ham fan that signing Costa would have been the ideal solution this month.
However, given the choice between the experienced frontman on a free and nobody with Haller leaving, it’s very possible there might’ve been universal support in signing the fiery Spaniard – making the refusals all the more baffling.
