Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was full of praise for West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen after a fine performance was capped with the winning goal against Aston Villa last night.
The 23-year-old coolly headed to the net following a superb run of individual play from Said Benrahma just after half-time with what proved to be the game’s decisive moment.
Noted for his phenomenal work rate, the Hammers were under pressure for large periods of the game but managed to hold on for victory, in spite of last-minute VAR drama. [Sky Sports]
Despite that controversy overshadowing much of the post-match talk, Carragher found time to heap praise upon Bowen for his captivating free role and his prolific eye for goal.
“Bowen, he has been a brilliant signing him,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“He’s just one of those players, he always nicks a goal every three or four games, you just see him on the scoresheet. And again he’s got a vital goal for them.
“He does really well on that right side coming inside and he’s been a great signing for them from the Championship.”
Bowen’s goal takes his overall tally to five since joining the club in January this year at the end of the 2019/20 winter transfer window. Crystal Palace were previously in talks to sign the forward from Hull in a deal worth £16m plus add-ons but were beaten to his signature by the Hammers.

Bowen’s latest exploits show that he is increasingly becoming a more central figure to David Moyes’ plans. His goal is now his fourth of the season; a marked improvement from his solitary strike in the second half of last term.
He could win even more points for West Ham this season if he continues to make the most of the opportunities given to him by his manager.
