Felipe Anderson jetted off to Rome once the Premier League season ended and Football Insider has reported that he is there for more than just a holiday.
They report that Anderson is currently in talks with Lazio over a possible return to the Stadio Olimpico, the place he left to join West Ham back in 2018.
David Moyes is apparently keen to raise some funds for The Hammers and after a relatively poor string of performances of late, agreeing a deal for Anderson to return to Italy looks a viable option.
Football Insider claim a West Ham source has revealed that the 27-year-old and his representatives are in Rome to conduct preliminary discussions with Lazio over his potential return.
The Hammers broke the bank back in 2018 to sign the Brazilian, paying £36 million, rising to £42 million, for his services and will be looking to recoup a similar fee if they were to sell.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Anderson didn’t have a great second season with West Ham, but the club’s season as a whole was particularly disappointing.
The 27-year-old only managed one goal and four assists in the Premier League last season and David Moyes opted not to use him as frequently as Anderson may have expected following the restart.
He’s a player with clear talent and ability, but if Lazio were willing to offer a similar fee to what West Ham paid for him, then it may be a smart move to cash in whilst they can.
However, Anderson certainly impressed in his first season and there’s no reason to suggest that he couldn’t find that form again. If Moyes can help him recapture it, then he could play a starring role next season if he was to stay.
