West Ham could save millions by promoting Cullen to the first team

West Ham United youngster Josh Cullen is currently on loan with Championship side Charlton Athletic, but we feel the Hammers could benefit massively by using him in the first team next season.

The midfielder has been impressive in English football’s second division this term, earning some high praise along the way.

Midfield is an area that needs improving at West Ham and we feel by keeping Cullen, the club will see good results. Firstly, because it could mean they don’t need to spend big money on a midfielder.

Carlos Sanchez looks certain to leave after failing to be offloaded in January, Jack Wilshere’s future is up in the air, while Mark Noble is ageing and isn’t exactly popular among fans at the moment for his displays, so it could be the ideal time for Cullen to make the step up.

The Irishman boasts an 83.2% pass completion rate, better than Noble’s 81.8% so far this season. Furthermore, he seems to be more effective aerially, winning 1.2 aerials per game, better than Noble’s 0.5 per game.

The Hammers have been linked with moves for players like Morgan Sanson and Seko Fofana recently, but rather than spending big on them, Cullen could offer a lot more because of his experience of English football.

Additionally, he won’t cost a penny and will also fit into David Moyes’ plan of building a team made up of players under the age of 25.
