New Zealand boss delighted that Winston Reid left West Ham
West Ham’s Winston Reid left the club on loan earlier this month, with the New Zealander calling time on his spell at the Hammers.
After not making a single appearance since March 2018, Reid left the Hammers to join MLS side Sporting Kansas City on loan until the end of the MLS season, with David Moyes seemingly not seeing a place for him in the current Hammers side.
Reid will be looking to rebuild his career in Major League Soccer, and New Zealand boss Danny Hay will be hoping he does too.
The manager, speaking to TVNZ, revealed that he believes Reid’s move to Sporting KC was a good one, and that it will prove to be a positive switch for the veteran defender.
I think this is the perfect move for Winston. Just the fact that he has been out for so long, this is all about him getting time on the pitch. We just need minutes under his belt.
(The MLS) is a big league, it’s a legitimate league. It is a great avenue for the Kiwi player.

Reid left West Ham in January, and some fans were quick to comment that it seemed like the club pushed out a veteran player.
The New Zealander was very dependable for West Ham for a number of seasons but was forced out of the team after his injury in March 2018.
He was hardly given a shot to perform this season, which brings up the question as to why?
The Hammers have the fourth worse defensive record in the entire division and have struggled to keep the goals out on a consistent basis.
This may be due to their goalkeeping crisis earlier in the season, but Reid could have potentially helped the Hammers at the back.
Even so, he’s now in America, where he’ll be looking to prove West Ham wrong and get his career back on track.
