West Ham United have announced plans to install two new tiers of seats closer to the pitch in time for the 2020/21 season, according to Sky Sports.
The seats at the London Stadium have come under a lot of criticism from fans, with many complaining that they are too far away from the pitch, leading to poor views of the action.
However, the club are seemingly attempting to rectify this situation, with the stadium’s owners set to install two new lower-tier stands to bring fans closer to the pitch in an attempt to appease fans who do not like the current layout of the stadium.
This would see the attendance rise for matches at the stadium, and see the configuration of the ground move to be more in line with other similar stadiums.
In a statement, cited by Sky Sports, the club revealed:
Following consultation with the Official Supporters Board (OSB) to help inform the brief and an extensive process between the club and (stadium owners) E20, Arena Events Group has been appointed to develop the new seating system.
Arena will deliver two new lower tier stands bringing fans closer to the pitch, many by more than four metres, with the stand being squared-off in line with a more traditional football stadium configuration behind the goals.
Following a period of design development, E20 and West Ham United will review the stands with the aim of installing the seats this summer.
Several West Ham fans took to Twitter to share their views on the news, with many still pessimistic about the stadium, alongside West Ham’s poor form in the league.
