West Hama are reportedly ready to trigger the €30m release clause in Athletic Bilbao centre-back Unai Nunez’s contract.
According to AS, via HITC, West Ham are prepared to meet the fee as they look to strengthen their defence in the January transfer window.
The report claims that Bayern Munich are also interested in the Spanish international, although Nunez has already been in contact with West Ham players as he considers the move.

West Ham have struggled this season, especially at the back, which means that it comes as no surprise to see the club wanting to add to their squad next month. The report states that they are willing to pay his release clause, which suggests that they are fairly advanced into discussions over a deal – so it seems plausible at this moment in time.
Nunez has recorded an impressive WhoScored rating of 6.89/10 for Bilbao this season, higher than any West Ham centre-back in the Premier League, and is only 22. On the face of it, he would appear to be a wise investment and a solid addition to the team, although you can never truly tell how a player will adapt to English football until they have a run of games.
The Hammers will, though, need to oust Bayern from the picture before they can seal a deal for the Spaniard. Bayern, whilst not currently top of the Bundesliga, are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have a certain degree of pull when it comes to signings.
