West Ham United loanee Josh Cullen has been dealt a serious injury blow after suffering ligament damage whilst on duty for Charlton Athletic.
The 23-year-old was forced off in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Cardiff City in the Championship and will be out of action until 2020.
Speaking to London News Online, Charlton manager Lee Bowyer confirmed the blow:
Josh is going to be out a while, a fair while, longer than Lyle, not the season, but he won’t be back before Christmas. He’s done his ligament, a few of them. It’s not good.
Many West Ham fans were calling for the Republic of Ireland international to be recalled in January to provide competition for Declan Rice.
Not only is that now in doubt, but his future at the London Stadium could come into question too with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
Hopefully, he can return to full fitness sooner rather than later and regain his spot in the Charlton set-up.
