West Ham to battle Wolves for Luyindama – would it make sense to sign him?

West Ham United seem to be eyeing defensive reinforcements in January and are set to battle Wolves for Galatasaray centre-back Christian Luyindama.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the Premier League duo scouted Luyindama as he featured against Club Brugge and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League earlier this season.

Galatasary permanently signed the 25-year-old for £7million from Standard Liege in the summer following a successful loan stint, but could already be willing to cash in on him.

The report claims the Turkish side would demand at least £13million for his services, a fee which is easily affordable for a star who is comfortable playing in defence and as a holding midfielder.

Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna make up Manuel Pellegrini’s current first-choice pairing, but one injury could cause problems in defence.

Fabian Balbuena provides back-up on the bench, but his performance against Oxford United in the 4-0 Carabao Cup defeat has raised major questions about his quality.

Winston Reid is injured more than he is fit these days, whilst summer arrival Goncalo Cardoso is simply not ready yet, so it’d make sense to target a new central defender in January.

And Luyindama, a player with Champions League experience, would be an excellent acquisition to the squad.

For £13m, it could prove to be a major bargain for the 25-year-old, so let’s see how this transfer story unfolds.
