In what transpired to be a good result, West Ham will take confidence in their defensive abilities when they play Manchester United this Sunday.
Both teams go into the fixture level on points and will be looking to gain an advantage in the race for a European place.
Manchester United have shown subtle signs of improvement this season under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer.
Their recruitment of young British talent has seen them inject pace and energy into their starting eleven.
The most impressive amongst them has been Daniel James, who has already scored three goals this season. Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as expected, have given the Red Devils a steeliness at the back.
West Ham, despite losing to Manchester City on the opening day, have since seen their fortunes improve.
A shaky performance against Brighton became a good away draw under the circumstances and subsequent wins against Newport County, Watford and Norwich has helped them to move back up the table.
The addition of Sebastian Haller has been pivotal in West Ham scoring the goals that they lacked up front last season. The return of Manuel Lanzini has also been a massive boost.
His ability to dictate the attacking play and bring Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko into play cannot be understated as a reason why West Ham have looked threatening up front.
Sunday will see a showdown of evenly matched teams. In past years, Manchester United were a behemoth of English football and West Ham would be looking at a stroke of luck and a big performance to beat them.
The playing field has levelled, however, in recent years and West Ham can go into this fixture looking to secure all three points.
