Carlos Sanchez was a hot topic of discussion for West Ham United fans over the summer, with many wanting the club to sell him and make space for fresh talent.
He answered his critics in eye-catching fashion against Newport County on Tuesday night though, impressing in the holding midfield role to help West Ham secure a 2-0 win and proceed to the Carabao Cup Third Round.

The experienced Colombian touched the ball 152 times on the night, more than any other player on the pitch, which emphasises his dominance whilst sitting in front of the visitors’ defence.
He also maintained a passing accuracy of 89.7% from 78 attempted passes, made two clearances and three interceptions.
Sanchez’s display should not only leave those calling for his departure eating their words, but more importantly provide supporters with proof that he’s capable of acting as an effective back-up to Declan Rice.
