Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed his plans for the future of West Ham United veteran Winston Reid, who is still recovering from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The 31-year-old centre-back sustained a knee injury in March 2018 and hasn’t featured in competitive action since, leaving plenty of question marks over his place in the squad.
Pellegrini has explained Reid’s whereabouts, as cited by Claret and Hugh, after not including him in any of West Ham’s Premier League games so far and signing a new centre-half in Goncalo Cardoso this summer:
Winston Reid is working with the squad but we must be very careful, he was out for around one year nine months, so he can be fit but we must have special work for him.

With Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna all competing for the two central-defensive spots in Pellegrini’s side this season, there admittedly won’t be much of a look in for Reid.
Cardoso is certainly one for the future, but arguably fourth in the pecking order which leaves the former Hammers captain’s future in a bit of limbo.
His contract doesn’t run out until 2023, so I think it’d be in the club’s best interest to sell him either in January or next summer.
It’s clear Reid won’t feature much during the upcoming season and his wages could be used elsewhere, so it’d be a waste of time to leave him wasting away in hope that he’ll get back to his best.
