West Ham United have advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup by beating Newport County 2-0, thanks to goals from Jack Wilshere and Pablo Fornals.
This was the Hammers’ first meeting against the League Two side in 40 years and it ended on a happy note.
The win for West Ham comes just three days after their first win of the season against Watford at Vicarage Road.
The match did not start very well for Manuel Pellegrini’s team as Michail Antonio was ruled out of the match after just seven minutes due to a hamstring injury.
The Hammers’ defence was a bit sluggish at times but Newport County were not very clinical up front, with only four of their 13 shots being on target.
West Ham dominated in possession and eventually found the goals that helped them go through.
After tonight’s win, the Hammers play their next match against Norwich City at home on Saturday.
This won’t be an easy match for Pellegrini’s side as the Canaries have produced some decent football so far, giving Chelsea a run for their money last weekend.
Now, we will take a look at four findings from tonight’s match.
