Jack Wilshere finally hit that all-important milestone against Newport County, scoring his first goal for West Ham United in a 2-0 win at Rodney Parade.
The 27-year-old midfielder benefitted from a defensive error that came from his own misplaced pass to stride through on goal and slot past the goalkeeper, putting West Ham 1-0 ahead just before half-time.
Pablo Fornals added a second after the break as the Hammers comfortably sealed their place in the Carabao Cup Third Round.
Plenty of fans have taken to social media and were quick to praise Wilshere after ending his long goal drought, which had lasted more than 600 days:

Wilshere has endured a mixed reception during his spell at West Ham, but when fully fit there’s no reason why he can’t be one of Manuel Pellegrini’s most important assets.
After such a promising pre-season, he hasn’t looked great in competitive games so far but hopefully, he can now use this goal as a confidence-booster and help take this exciting team to the next level.
Should he start against Norwich City at the weekend? It’s hard to say considering Mark Noble was so impressive at Watford, but he’ll certainly be in contention now.
