Chivas president confirms Chicharito return ‘feasible’ – should West Ham sell up?

Amaury Vergara, president of Chivas, has confirmed he’s working on a move that would see Javier Hernandez return to the club, with his West Ham United contract ticking down.

Hernandez’ contract runs out next summer and there have already been reports of a number of clubs eyeing his signature in January.

Chivas, the place where Chicharito started his career, seem to be one of the interested parties after club president  Vergara told Telemundo Deportes, as cited by Sport Witness, his plans to bring him home:

It is feasible [the return of ‘Chicharito’ to Chivas]. We are working on it; there was a small approach this season; it is not the time for Javier to return to Chivas. We must continue pushing for it.

READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT

With Sebastien Haller already winning over the hearts of Hammers fans and Albian Ajeti seemingly providing youthful, and quality back-up, perhaps Hernandez’ time at the London Stadium is coming to a close.

For a player of his pedigree, it’d be a shame to lose him on a free transfer but it’s likely the club are baulking at his wage demands when it’s likely he’ll only play a bit-part role this season.

He’s enjoyed a glittering career and scored some crucial goals for West Ham, but it’d be the right thing to do to let him depart on his own terms.

The MLS may seem like a more realistic destination for him, and I think he’d seriously impress across the pond, but it’d similarly be heart-warming to see him return home to Mexico and retire as one of the nation’s greats.
