West Ham United travel to Newport County on Tuesday night in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
The Hammers claimed their first three points and win on Saturday against Watford. A penalty from captain Mark Noble and brace from summer signing Sebastien Haller gave West Ham a 3-1 victory over the Hornets.
Now the Hammers travel to the Exiles at Rodney Parade in their first League Cup fixture.
Newport defeated Gillingham on penalties in the first round and will be hoping to add to their giant-killing pedigree.
The Welsh side have a deadly hitman up front in the form of…
Padraig Amond
Entering his third season with the Exiles, the former League of Ireland hitman will be looking to hit double figures for the season for the third season in a row for Newport.
Newport are unbeaten this season and Amond is currently their top scorer with three goals in all competitions, including the goal that took Newport to penalties in the previous round.
Amond has previous history in scoring against Premier League sides as he was the one who scored the winner to dump Leicester City out of last season’s FA Cup.
Brilliant in the air, which is a surprise given he is only 5’11”, Amond will give the Hammers’ defence a different kind of headache which they might not be used to.
West Ham will need to neutralise the threat of Amond if they are to avoid being exiled from the Carabao Cup early on again.
