West Ham have to stop relying on this man to bail them out of trouble. Last weekend showed the defensive frailties in midfield and defence.
Watford are next up for the Hammers, who have looked a far cry from the side that reached the FA Cup final last season.
One might say they are suffering a hangover from Javi Gracia’s successful first full season. He was able to use Watford’s existing talent and build a solid defence in the process.
Last season saw Feminia and Holebas occupy the full-back berths and contribute the odd goal and assist, making Watford dangerous on the attack.
He was also able to motivate Gerard Deulofeu and Abdoulaye Doucoure, who provided assists and resilience in the midfield. Gracia didn’t rest on his laurels and made significant purchases this summer.
Ismailia Sarr and Danny Welbeck will give Watford mobility upfront whilst the acquistion of Craig Dawson is a shrewd addition that will toughen up their back line.
It hasn’t been plain sailing, however. Watford looked vulnerable in defence against both Brighton and Everton, which has tended to undo their midfield play.
This has meant that, whilst they have continued to look threatening going forward, the opposition are enjoying success when they have the ball. West Ham will have the chance to expose this weakness on Saturday.
However, similiar to Watford, their defence has been their weak spot. Let’s look at the areas where the match will be won, lost or drawn for the Hammers.
