West Ham beat Hertha Berlin in a 5-3 thriller as they continued their pre-season prepartion. Goals from Sebastien Haller, Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Fornals, Grady Diangana and Michail Antonio showed our attacking prowess ahead of the new season.
Pellegrini appears to be implementing his philosophy on a side that little over a year ago was subject to David Moyes. Fast-flowing, fluid football was on display as the midfield linked up effortlessly.
Whilst some of the goals were lucky, most benefitted from quick build-up play that could strike fear into many Premier League sides next season.
Defensively, we still appear shaky. Ben Johnson is a competent back-up to Ryan Fredericks but the jury is still out on Aaron Cresswell. Fabian Balbuena had a few questionable moments that may mean Declan Rice could drop into CB with Diop.
I personally think Pellegrini will stick with his CB pairing but he has to move in this window if he isn’t happy. A leaky defence this season will spell trouble for us, espically if we want to go for a European spot.
But let’s focus on the positives for now. Here are a few things we learned from the latest pre-season win.
