It looked like West Ham’s hopes of signing Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo had faded and died, but the Hammers have made a late attempt to resurrect a deal and hijack Valencia’s move for the Uruguayan.
As per a report in the Evening Standard, Valencia were confident of completing a deal that would have seen them send £14m plus two fringe players to Celta Vigo in exchange for Gomez, but West Ham have made a late move to try to get the Uruguayan international to the London Stadium.
West Ham have decided to let Marko Arnautovic join Chinese side Shanghai SIPG in a £22.5million deal and as such, they want to replace him with Gomez.
At this time, there is no word if Gomez would prefer to join Valencia or the Hammers but it looks like people thinking the deal to the Spanish side was a done deal were incorrect.
