West Ham United are reportedly in the race to sign Erkan Eyibil from Mainz this summer.
According to claims from Turkish Football, the Hammers are among the clubs who have been impressed by the 17-year-old this term, with a possible move at the end of the season lined up.
Eyibil has been playing his football in Mainz’s Under-19 team and has turned in some standout displays for the German side. He has found the back of the net on 12 occasions and has chipped in with a further five assists.
The youngster operates primarily as a central attacking midfielder and has seen his style compared to that of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.
Eyibil received a call-up to the Germany Under-18 team last week but remains eligible to represent Turkey at senior international level.
West Ham are not the only top-flight side in the race to sign the youngster, however. Turkish Football reports that Newcastle United are also keen on the Mainz prospect.
