West Ham are close to agreeing a £40m deal that will see striker Maxi Gomez arrive in the summer from Celta Vigo, according to Sky Sports.
The Hammers broke their club record transfer fee to sign Felipe Anderson in the summer but it looks like they’re about to break it again for the Uruguayan star.
However, unlike Anderson, West Ham fans won’t get to see Gomez in the famous claret and blue shirts straight away as he will stay with Celta until the end of the season.
Sky Sports report that the forward has a £43.3m release clause in his current deal with Celta, but the Spanish side have agreed to sell him for £3.3m less in order to keep him until the end of the current campaign.
It was originally thought that The Hammers were looking at new strikers to replace Marko Arnautovic, who was linked with a move to the Chinese Super League but with the Austrian committing his future to the club, it looks like Gomez is a man they’ve identified as an addition to their squad and not as a replacement for Arnautovic.
