West Ham’s failure to land William Carvalho in the summer saw the ridiculed for the series of embarrassing comments made by club officials in the aftermath, but it appears as if that’s all water under the bridge as the Hammers consider a summer move for the Portugal international.
David Moyes wants to bring in a new defensive midfielder to provide a screen to his defence and Carvalho is one of the top targets being considered by the club despite his £36m release clause.
Sporting’s captain has impressed so far this season and West Ham again sent scouts to check up on the 25-year-old midfielder during Sporting’s 2-1 Liga NOS win over Tondela on Monday evening.
In addition to Carvalho, fellow Sporting standouts Bas Dost, who netted in the game, and Gelson Martins would also have been on their radar.
