Lille captain Ibrahim Amadou was a late window transfer target for West Ham and they submitted a number of offers for the versatile defensive midfielder during the January window.
As always, West Ham were looking for a bargain buy and tried to bring in the 24-year-old on an initial loan deal for a £2m fee with an option to buy for £14m in the summer, but that wasn’t enough to float Lille’s boat.
Under significant financial pressure, Lille were only going to entertain significant permanent offers for Amadou that late in the transfer window despite the player travelling to London to try and engineer a move himself.

According to La Voix du Nord, West Ham submitted an improved offer worth €15m up front for Amadou in a bid to pip Crystal Palace to his signature but the Ligue 1 strugglers rejected the offer and Amadou stayed put.
West Ham also missed out on Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker after they left a bid to sign him too late in the window. What they’ve spent the last 30 days doing will remain a mystery.
