In their biannual deadline day dramatics to bring in a couple of hastily shortlisted targets on loan, West Ham submitted an offer to take Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the rest of the season.

West Ham allowed Diafra Sakho to complete a £4.5m return to French football with Rennes late in the window and sold Andre Ayew back to Swansea for £18m, but despite this injection of cash, the club were reluctant to shell out o a proven commodity, thus the loan moves.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a decent enough striker, notching three goals and six assists in the Premier League this season and is set to see reduced action for Everton following the arrivals of Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott, but Sam Allardyce was clearly reluctant to sent the 20-year-old out on loan, especially to West Ham given their history.
David Moyes was able to add one striker to his squad, Jordan Hugill was signed from Preston for £9m on deadline day, but the Hammers will likely rue their failure to adequately supplement the squad (again) in the second half of the season.
