West Ham have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who says he wants to sign a new deal with the Gunners.
Wilshere’s contract at the Emirates runs out in the summer of 2018 and he finds himself in similar positions with his contract as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who both look likely to leave the Gunners either in the January transfer window or in the summer as free agents.
As his contract does run out next summer, Wilshere is able to talk to foreign clubs on a pre-contract agreement when the January transfer window opens, with Marseille and several Spanish sides interested.
West Ham had been linked with a loan move for the player if his game time did not increase at the Emirates.
However, it looks as if the contract situation may be resolved before the transfer window opens.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Wilshere outlined his ambition.
I definitely want to be here. We just have to sort things out and I’m sure that will happen in the next couple of weeks and it will be sorted.
The 25-year-old, who turns 26 on New Year’s Day, has been at Arsenal his whole career, bar the loan move to Bournemouth in the last Premier League season, and wishes to stay at the Emirates even longer.
