West Ham eye January move for Sam Johnstone

West Ham are reportedly keen on bringing Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to the London Stadium in January, according to reports.

The English goalkeeper is currently on loan at Aston Villa, where he impressed in a six-month loan spell at the back end of the 2016/17 season, as he kept the most clean sheets in the Championship during this time.

Steve Bruce, manager at Villa Park, has repeatedly said that he is very happy to have Johnstone and would love to permanently sign him for Aston Villa. However, David Moyes also looks keen to put him in his West Ham squad.

Johnstone’s current contract at Old Trafford runs out in the summer, so José Mourinho may wish to cash in on him in January.

The Scotsman is wishing to add Johnstone to his squad to replace, or at least give competition, to Joe Hart who is on loan from Manchester City.

In addition, with West Ham apparently wanting to replace Adrian as number one, Johnstone would get his first chance in the Premier League, having been sent out on loan to Football League sides such as Oldham Athletic, Doncaster Rovers and Preston North End during his time as a United player.
