Opinion: What do the board need to do now?

After a shaky start at the London Stadium, many fans called for the owners of West Ham, David Sullivan and David Gold, to sell up.

However after a good string of performances in recent weeks that has all calmed down. The Hammers currently sit in ninth position in the Premier League and look to finish the season comfortably in mid-table.

The first season at the new stadium was always going to be hard however it looks as if West Ham have just about survived. It is pretty clear however that West Ham are missing two key positions in their squad. Bilic will definitely need to sign a right back and a striker if he wants to compete for Europe next season.

It was clear that West Ham needed a striker in the summer. West Ham started the season with Simone Zaza on loan from Juventus and after seeing him play once it was clear that he was a panic buy. The owners did try and sign multiple strikers however they all seemed to fall through.

Maybe they thought we could get away with Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho. Evidently, if they thought that then they were wrong as the Hammers are the sixth lowest scoring team in the league. It is likely that if West Ham do buy in the summer the player will have some Premier League experience.

West Ham also need to recruit a right-back. Although we have Sam Byram he does not yet have enough experience to start consistently for West Ham.

The owners will also need to reinvest the money from the sale of Dimitri Payet into the squad to increase depth into the squad. If the owners get this right we could be moving in the right direction.
