Martin Samuelsen joined West Ham last summer from Manchester City’s youth academy and has shown us glimpses of his tremendous potential when given the opportunity. He set League One alight last season during a loan spell at Peterborough and Blackburn have got a very talented player coming their way on loan this season.
Havard Nordtveit joined on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer and is very highly-rated. He hasn’t had much game time yet but he looks like he could be a very solid defensive midfielder who can give protection to our back four.
What do these two players have in common? They’re both from Norway and they are both in the international squad currently. Samuelsen became our third Norwegian at the club and his fellow countryman Nordtveit was the fourth.
We have had ten Nordic players before these two joined. The “Nordic” countries are an extension of the region of Scandinavia and it relates to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark. Twelve players – including our Norwegian pair – have played for the Irons.
Here is a look at each of our previous ten players from the Nordic region and a brief summary of how they fared at West Ham.
