West Ham face Watford this weekend in a game which should finally kickstart the Hammers’ season. An injury crisis, combined with a tough fixture list, has meant that they haven’t got into first gear yet, with two defeats – albeit expectedly – against Chelsea and Manchester City and a scrappy 1-0 win over Bournemouth thanks to a late Michail Antonio goal.
For Saturday’s game, though, West Ham have their big guns back. Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini are both expected to start, while Sofiane Feghouli should be in the squad and Simone Zaza is in line to make his debut. A win should kick-off a run of good results for the Hammers, with their fixture list looking very favourable for the next two months.
However, Watford shouldn’t be taken for granted and can spring a surprise, as the Premier League saw last season when they unexpectedly finished in 13th place despite their awful form at the end of the season.West Ham have had differing fortunes against the Hornets in the past, as the last five meetings between the two teams show.
