West Ham’s pursuits of an experienced left back to fill the void of Aaron Cresswell continues, with the club now looking to explore the loan market to replace Cresswell in the short-term.
West Ham have strong relations with Arsenal after taking Carl Jenkinson on loan each of the last two seasons, we seem to be after another of Arsenal’s full backs. Kieran Gibbs, now 26, has lost his starting place to Nacho Monreal in recent seasons and has seen his playing time has diminished, a loan move to West Ham was tabled and it would’ve given him some much needed first team minutes.
The Gunners, however, have turned down the offer from West Ham, unwilling to allow a more prominent member of their squad depart to a Premier League rival.
West Ham have lined up a number of possible left-backs to replace Cresswell for the four months he is set to be out for. The Hammers have today had a £3m bid turned down by Norwich for Martin Olsson. The Swede has just one year left to run on his contract and West Ham are expected to come in with a larger offer.
Determined to sign a left-back before the start of the Premier League season, FC Copenhagen’s Ludwig Augustinsson is also being eyed up in a £5m deal.
