After 16 years at West Ham United, Baroness Karren Brady has announced her departure from ther club, stepping down from her role.
In her statement on the West Ham’s website Brady said: “It has been a privilege to work alongside the Board, management, players, staff and supporters at West Ham United. Together we have achieved remarkable milestones, but the highlight for me will always be lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy – a moment that will stay with me forever. I am deeply grateful for the relationships, challenges and opportunities that have shaped my time at the Club.”
Brady has stated she is leaving to focus on other interests and that, is in part, her reasoning for moving on.
“While this chapter closes, my passion for football and commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders remains undiminished. I wish West Ham United every success for the future and look forward to following their continued achievements with pride.”
Joint-Chair David Sullivan said: “Karren has been an exceptional leader and a key figure in the Club’s development over the years. We wish her every success in her future endeavours and thank her for her outstanding contribution over the past 16 years.”
Brady leaves West Ham
There has been much speculation over the last month or so that change at the top of West Ham was on the cards. The club is in need of investment and are on the wrong side of the chart when it comes to finances. Change is needed regardless of where the club are in football terms next season.
Over the 16 years where Brady was vice-chairman, she oversaw significant changes at the club, some good, some bad.
Brady led the negotiations that saw the Irons leave Upton Park for the London Stadium. Whilst the move itself is questionable, the club now averages one of the highest average attendances in the Premier League.
Brady’s departure signal some change at West Ham with an uncertain summer incoming. Hopefully the changes that take place signal a better, more stable future for the club.
