West Ham definitely have a fluctuating history with transfers, from signing Savio Nsereko and Matt Jarvis for a combined total of £20m, to signing Manuel Lanzini, Håvard Nordtveit and Sofiane Feghouli for a grand total of £9m.
Transfer business is certainly risky, with West Ham being perfect evidence of that. You can sign an unknown 19-year-old for a hefty price who turns out to be useless, or you can take a risk on an “inconsistent 28-year-old” who becomes one of the best players in the Premier League.
One thing which is certain though is that since David Gold and David Sullivan gained a majority stake in the club, the transfer situation has definitely improved and, not so coincidentally, West Ham’s league position has too.
