Kyle Knoyle has suffered a freak injury during Wigan Athletic’s pre-season tour of Portugal, and requires immediate surgery to fix the problem.
Knoyle has dislocated and fractured his elbow, after only joining the Championship side on loan from the Hammers last week.
Despite the injury, the 19-year-old will remain with the Latics until the end of the season, and will now be working hard to come to terms with the blow.
Wigan boss Gary Caldwell has been left astonished at the events that have taken place between Knoyle signing on loan at the DW Stadium, to now being out for a number of months.

“Kyle’s dislocated and fractured his elbow, and he’s already had to have an operation,” Caldwell told the Evening Post.
“We’re not entirely sure of timescales, but it’s going to be a long time.
“It’s so unfortunate for him, because he was so hungry to come in and do well. It was actually his first full-contact training session that it happened.
“It’s a freak injury, too – completely out of everyone’s control. I really feel for him, because he’s a great lad and he so wanted to do well here.
“Fingers crossed he can work hard on his rehab and get back fit as soon as he can.”
This isn’t the first time that Caldwell has suffered with bad luck in the full-back department, since taking on the role as manager last year.
All at Read West Ham wish Kyle the best, and hope to see him back on the pitch, injury free, very soon.
