The 27-year-old, who has rediscovered his form of late with goals in consecutive home wins over Southampton and Liverpool, sustained a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s 3-1 triumph at Bournemouth.
Carroll was withdrawn after 15 minutes, and could now miss five league games, as well as the FA Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool or Exeter City.

The England international’s injury comes as a huge blow to Slaven Bilic, whose side are in good shape to compete for a European place having not lost since November.
Fortunately for the Hammers, Enner Valencia proved he can be a worthy replacement for Carroll as he netted twice at Bournemouth, and Diafra Sakho is reported to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from a thigh problem.
West Ham take on one of Carroll’s former clubs, Newcastle United, on Saturday, knowing that a win would lift them into the top four if Tottenham Hotspur drop points against Sunderland in the lunchtime kick-off.
