After recently re-signing Barcelona midfielder, Alex Song, on loan, West Ham are considering sending him back to his parent club due to an ongoing ankle injury, claim Spanish source Sport.
West Ham secured the loan signing of Song at the start of the domestic season, knowing that he was carrying a slight knock. They decided that it wasn’t a problem and that he’d be available soon after the season’s start when he had fully recovered but his recovery is taking longer than manager, Slaven Bilic, thought and hoped.
The decision comes due to the London side still having to pay some of the Cameroonian midfielder’s wages and they don’t believe it’s worth paying a player that they don’t own and that can’t even play. The length of his injury has annoyed Slaven Bilic as he was hoping to have the 28-year-old at his disposal for some of the earlier games in the season. The nature of Alex Song’s injury obviously wasn’t fully understood by the medical team at West Ham and as the team have proved at times this season, they could do with the power and stability in the midfield from the African midfielder.
Hammers fans were excited to hear of the loan move after such a successful loan move last season but have also been disappointed to hear of his lengthy injury. It shouldn’t be too much longer before Song is playing football but it’s just whether that football will be played in the claret and blue of West Ham United or the red and blue of Barcelona.
