News sources in Italy are claiming that Watford are in talks with Argentine forward and West Ham target Juan Iturbe from Roma, report Sport Witness.
The 22-year-old, who can play as both a forward and a winger, is deemed surplus to requirements at the Italian side following the recruitment of Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah. This has alerted the bosses at West Ham who are in need of an attacker to replace the imminent departure of Modibo Maïga and a winger to fill the hole left by out of favour Morgan Amalfitano, and the likely to leave Matt Jarvis.
However, Italian website Tutto Mercato claim that AS Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini was seen meeting with Watford owner Gino Pozzo at the ATA hotel, an Italian hotel synonymous with meetings between clubs and agents. Pozzo also owns Italian club Udinese, a rival of Roma, who could seek to hit two birds with one stone with Iturbe’s signature.
However, there are conflicting reports from Di Marzio that Iturbe, who has been capped at youth level by Paraguay and more recently Argentina, has agreed a deal with fellow Italian side Genoa, who are close to selling Diego Perotti, their star player, so Iturbe can fill the void. It is believed that Genoa is Iturbe’s preferred destination, however improved wages from Watford and West Ham could sway his decision.
