Darren Randolph may not have been the backup goalkeeper for West Ham for the start of the season, had The Hammers got their wish. The Daily Star, quoting the Daily Mail, say they were interested in Manchester United’s Anders Lindergaard earlier in the summer, but had to pull out of the move and sign Randolph instead.
Lindegaard is struggling heavily for playing time at Old Trafford, with his last appearance in the Premier League coming in April 2014, a 4-0 win at St James’ Park against Newcastle. He hasn’t been chosen at all by Louis van Gaal since the Dutchman replaced David Moyes as Manchester United boss, with the closest he’s come to playing being a regular place on the bench, which was then taken by Victor Valdes.
Now, with Sergio Romero having signed this summer, Lindegaard looks likely to leave, and West Ham were one candidate to bring him in. However, after finding out his wage demands, they pulled out of the deal and went to look elsewhere.
Darren Randolph moved to Upton Park on a free transfer this summer following the expiration of his Birmingham contract, but there’s already been rumours that the club aren’t confident in his ability, hence why former Hammer Rob Green has been linked with a move back. However, with Adrian’s ban only three matches, any incoming goalkeeper would only play temporarily.
