Newcastle United have withdrawn from the race to sign Queen’s Park Rangers striker and West Ham target Charlie Austin, writes the Express.
The news comes following months of speculation over Austin’s future at Loftus Road, with the striker reportedly keen to remain in London. QPR are said to want £15-million for the Englishman’s signature though clubs were initially unwilling to match the West Londoner’s demands.
Having moved to QPR from Burnley in 2013, Austin went on to score 39 goals in 75 appearances for the Hoops. With an impressive return of 18 goals and 7 assists in his debut Premier League season, QPR are aware of Austin’s value as a proven goal scorer.
With Chelsea also rumoured to have shown interest, Austin’s future may well be decided by his desire for first team football. With potential criminal charges looming for Diafra Sakho, and injuries to both Andy Carroll and Enner Valencia, Austin could expect regular first team football at West Ham. Should Chelsea also make a bid, Austin would likely be challenging Radamael Falcao for third choice behind both Diego costa and Loic Remy.
Chris Ramsey on @chazaustin9 “I don’t think I’d be being very honest with him to say, stay in the Championship and forget your ambitions”

QPR manager Chris Ramsey has recently reinforced rumours of the striker’s departure, telling journalist Ian Abrahams it would be dishonest to tell Austin to “stay in the championship and forget [his] ambitions”.
