Sam Allardyce has came out and slammed West Ham owners, David Gold and David Gold branding both as “ungrateful” in an interview with beIN Sports talking about his departure from the Boleyn after four years.
In a wide-ranging interview, the 60-year old revealed he “tried” to win week in week out, suggesting ‘the West Ham way’ didn’t incorporate the idea of doing this.
Allardyce went on to describe how the Hammer’s owners were ungrateful for his work saying he “did everything” he was asked to do in his job description but, “they wanted more” to which he found “ungrateful” given the work he had done since taking over in 2011 when he was tasked with returning the East London side back to the Premier League.
The ex-Newcastle manager went on to state he doesn’t believe the current crop of players could get into Europe explaining that it was “way beyond” the “capabilities” of the team.
Allardyce also admitted he told the board that Europe could be beyond the club for the 2015/16 season. “I told them that. [the squad wasn’t good enough] Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why they didn’t renew my contract in the end?”
He finished by saying that West Ham was “the biggest job” he has ever had as a manager and that it was, “the case of building a broken football club again“.
