West Ham are set to battle it out with Everton for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Dembele, according to FootGoal.net.
The 28 year old has found it hard to break into the first team at White Hart Lane due to increased competition, featuring in just over half of Spurs’ league games last season, and could be tempted to move clubs with the guarantee of first team action. The former Fulham midfielder did however impress in those games with an impressive 89% pass completion rate.
It was reported last month that West Ham were looking at the Belgian, as they looked to strengthen their midfield. Now, with Alex Song’s transfer delayed, the Hammers have returned for the midfielder.
Dembele, who has 62 Belgium caps to his name, might also be tempted to leave in an attempt to keep the attention of the national team’s manager with Euro 2016 at the end of next season. The Hammers and Everton are leading the way for the Belgians signature, however Sunderland are also keen on bolstering their midfield, and Dick Advocaat is an admirer of the former AZ Alkamaar player.
West Ham have also expressed an interest in his fellow countryman and Everton star Kevin Mirallas, but their interest seems to be cooling, freeing up a move for Dembele. West Ham might be put off for the same reason they chose to pass on Yohan Cabaye due to the Belgian’s age and the fact that West Ham have a good squad depth in central midfield.
