West Ham’s chances of signing Carl Jenkinson on loan for another season have increased today. This comes following Arsenal’s announcement of their pre-season squad to tour Singapore. Jenkinson has not included in the squad, and neither has been given a reason for him not being picked.
Arsenal.com gives reasons for a number of players who have been away on international duties and others who have injuries, yet there is no mention at all of Jenkinson. This could therefore mean that the Hammers’ deal to take Jenko on loan again for another season may be nearing completion.
The Arsenal right back impressed at Upton Park last season and was said to be one of the club’s highest priority signings for the upcoming campaign. West Ham had tried to make a permanent deal for the England U21 Defender, but Arsenal were reportedly asking more than West Ham were willing to pay.
Jenkinson had also been linked with a loan move to Sunderland, but has turned it down in order to come back for another successful season at West Ham.
The move would be a good one for both parties, as it allows Jenkinson to be playing week in week out for a European team, and also fills the gap that the Hammers have at right back with Joey O’Brien being the only player currently in this position.
