What number is Morato at West Ham?
Morato wears No.5 for West Ham.
The Brazilian defender joined on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest on Deadline Day and immediately took one of the traditional defensive shirt numbers.
West Ham’s official Morato profile lists him as the club’s No.5.
His arrival adds further competition alongside Kilman, Mavropanos and Veltman in the centre of Nuno’s defence.
For the complete positional picture, see our permanently updated West Ham squad Page.
What number is Adama Boiro at West Ham?
Adama Boiro is West Ham’s No.18.
Boiro joined from Athletic Club on a season-long loan with an option to buy after a dramatic Deadline Day pursuit.
The left-back’s official West Ham profile now carries No.18.
Boiro will compete with No.30 Ollie Scarles on the left side of the defence.
Who is West Ham’s No.9?
Joël Piroe wears West Ham’s No.9 shirt in 2026/27.
The Suriname international joined on loan from Leeds United during the summer, with West Ham holding an obligation to make the transfer permanent.
Piroe arrived having scored 73 Championship goals across four seasons and has taken the traditional centre-forward number.
His official West Ham profile confirms No.9.
Taty Castellanos wears No.11, while Pablo has No.19.
Who wears No.10 for West Ham?
Manor Solomon is West Ham’s No.10.
The winger joined permanently from Tottenham during the summer and was immediately given one of the most recognisable attacking numbers.
West Ham’s official Solomon profile confirms his No.10 shirt.
Solomon has already opened his West Ham account after scoring on his Championship debut against Burnley.
What number is Jarrod Bowen?
Captain Jarrod Bowen continues to wear No.20.
Bowen has worn the shirt throughout the most important years of his West Ham career, including when he scored the winning goal in the 2023 Europa Conference League final.
His official West Ham profile continues to list him as No.20.
There is therefore no switch to a traditional No.7, No.9 or No.10 shirt despite his status as captain.
Divine Mukasa takes No.14
One of the more interesting numbers belongs to Divine Mukasa.
The Manchester City loanee wears No.14 after returning to his former club during the summer.
West Ham specifically introduced him as their “new No14” when announcing the loan.
Mukasa has already made the number noticeable after scoring twice in West Ham’s 4-2 Championship victory over Wolves.
That performance has strengthened his case for a major role in Nuno’s team despite being only 19.
Arne Engels takes No.7
West Ham’s major midfield signing Arne Engels wears No.7.
The Belgium international arrived from Celtic in August and was immediately handed a number traditionally associated with attacking players.
His official profile confirms No.7.
Engels operates primarily in midfield rather than as a conventional winger, another example of why modern shirt numbers do not always correspond neatly with traditional positions.
West Ham goalkeeper numbers
The two senior goalkeepers currently have:
1 – Mads Hermansen
23 – Alphonse Areola
Hermansen remains West Ham’s No.1, while former France international Areola continues with No.23. West Ham’s official first-team profiles confirm both numbers.
Academy goalkeeper Fin Herrick has also been involved in senior matchday squads wearing No.49.
West Ham Academy squad numbers
Several Academy players have already appeared in senior squads with higher numbers during 2026/27.
Recent first-team matchday squads have included:
| Number | Player |
|---|---|
| 49 | Fin Herrick |
| 58 | Airidas Golambeckis |
| 63 | Ezra Mayers |
| 66 | Joshua Ajala |
These numbers should be treated differently from established senior squad numbers.
Young players can move between age-group and first-team football, and their numbers may change as their status develops.
Our West Ham Academy guide tracks the U21s, U18s, loans and young players pushing into Nuno’s first-team group.
Which West Ham shirt numbers are currently vacant?
Several traditional numbers are currently unused by the established first-team group.
Notable gaps include:
6
8
12
13
16
22
24
25
26
29
That does not necessarily mean West Ham are deliberately reserving those numbers for particular players.
Squad numbers can become vacant following transfers and may remain unused until a later registration period or season.
I would keep this section because searches around “West Ham number 8” or “who has West Ham number 6?” can produce useful long-tail impressions.
Can West Ham players change squad numbers?
Yes, but changes are most commonly made between seasons.
Once competitive registrations and shirt sales are under way, mid-season changes become less straightforward.
New signings arriving in January can take any available number permitted under competition rules.
This Page should therefore be checked again after the January 2027 transfer window.
Why do some West Ham players have high numbers?
Higher numbers are particularly common among Academy players.
A youngster wearing No.58 or No.66 does not mean they are ranked 58th or 66th in Nuno’s selection order.
Those numbers are often assigned as young players move between development and senior squads.
Established senior players can also choose unconventional numbers for personal reasons.
