West Ham stand one result away from matching a landmark last achieved in their final season at Upton Park.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side head into Saturday’s Championship clash with Southampton at the London Stadium on a nine-match unbeaten league run.
A win or draw would extend that sequence to ten games, the first time the club has managed the feat since the spring of 2016.
That previous run came under Slaven Bilić during the 2015/16 Premier League campaign, West Ham’s last at the Boleyn Ground.
The ten-game run at Upton Park in 2015/16
It began with a 2-2 comeback draw at Norwich City on 13 February and stretched through ten matches without defeat before Swansea City ended it with a 4-1 win at Upton Park on 7 May.
The sequence included several standout results – a 1-0 victory over Tottenham in the final derby at the old ground, a dramatic 3-2 rally from 2-0 down ( with ten men) at Everton, draws against Chelsea, Arsenal and eventual champions Leicester City, as well as comfortable wins over Watford and West Bromwich Albion.
Across those ten games, the Hammers recorded five wins and five draws while pushing for a top-four finish.
They ultimately ended the season seventh with a then-club record 62 Premier League points.
A decade on, a positive for West Ham vs Southampton would write a new chapter and give the current side a landmark that has eluded the club since their final days at Upton Park.
Avoiding defeat against the Saints would not be a bad thing, but all at West Ham want to carry on the recent momentum with another three points to maintain the pressure at the top of the Championship table.
