Rangers 0-0 West Ham: Hermansen rescues Hammers in frustrating draw

West Ham laboured to a 0-0 draw with Rangers as the Scots gave Nuno Espírito Santo’s side a tougher pre-season examination at Ibrox.

The Hammers defended with discipline, but their lack of creativity highlighted the attacking work still required before competitive football begins.

Rangers controlled possession during the opening stages and forced Mads Hermansen into several saves. The goalkeeper dealt comfortably with efforts from Mohamed Diomande, Ben Godfrey and Djeidi Gassama.

West Ham gradually settled and created their best first-half opportunity through James Ward-Prowse. His free-kick tested Ivor Pandur, who pushed the midfielder’s effort away before the interval.

Nuno’s team showed greater intent after half-time. Pablo and Taty Castellanos both threatened, but neither produced the finish required to break the deadlock.

Rangers continued creating the clearer opportunities. Diomande headed directly at Hermansen before Thelo Aasgaard forced another save from a curling free-kick.

Youssef Chermiti and Lawrence Shankland also went close during the closing stages. Hermansen remained composed and ensured West Ham left Glasgow with a clean sheet. The official West Ham match report confirmed the goalless result at Ibrox.

Konstantinos Mavropanos returned to the starting side and helped West Ham remain organised under sustained Rangers pressure. The defensive performance provided Nuno with encouragement after the comfortable 5-0 victory over Stevenage.

However, West Ham struggled to connect midfield with attack. Castellanos received limited service, while Jarrod Bowen could not consistently influence the match.

The result followed the tactical questions raised in ReadWestHam’s Rangers match preview, which identified midfield protection and attacking cohesion as key areas to assess.

Rangers 0-0 West Ham delivered useful fitness work and another clean sheet. Nuno will still want greater speed, movement and decisiveness before the Carabao Cup tie against Portsmouth.
